Painting a portrait purely from life is a rare and luxurious thing.  My wish is to describe an aspect of a person, a mood and a feeling, as best I can and as carefully observed as I can, making the paint work hard to bring a person to life on canvas.

Over the last two years my portraits of children have been made both from simple drawings and sometimes from photographs.  The style remains loose, impressionist and painterly (using visible brushstrokes) to convey something of the subject's personality and story.
